The People’s Health Panel (PHP) is the CCG’s flagship engagement initiative. It is made up of over 3,000 members who have voluntarily signed up, or have been independently recruited, with the aim of getting involved in shaping health services across Birmingham and Solihull.
As a member of the PHP, the level of involvement is entirely determined by the member; from completing surveys to attending programme boards.
It is one of the largest engagement initiatives that a CCG has done in the country, and the CCG is proud of it. The communications and engagement team has been asked to present the concept to other CCGs, to share learning and best practice.
The membership of the PHP has been analysed by the equality and diversity team; it is broadly representative of the local populations we serve. This means that the CCG can engage with and involve people from all local communities, ensuring a cross-section of representative opinions and views.
However, we want to increase the membership even further and will be carrying out a recruitment campaign during 2018/19.
