Don’t miss a beat: new website launched in bid to keep hearts healthy
A new website has been launched for people in Birmingham and Solihull which provides advice and support to keep our hearts healthy.
Birmingham and Solihull Healthy Hearts is an easy way for people in Birmingham and Solihull to find out if they’re at risk of heart disease or a stroke, and gives a chance to change lives for the better.
Cardiovascular diseases are the main cause of death in England, with heart and circulatory diseases causing more than a quarter of all deaths in the UK. That’s nearly 170,000 deaths each year - an average of 460 deaths each day, or one every three minutes in the UK.
Birmingham and Solihull Healthy Hearts, developed by a number of health organisations, local authorities and charities, aims to provide the best possible information and advice to support healthy lifestyle changes.
Using the website is fast and simple, and has lots of tricks and tools to find out how to check your blood pressure, and to see if you’re at risk of developing heart disease.
You’re more likely to be at risk of developing heart disease or having a stroke if you:
- Smoke
- Drink alcohol (including binge drinking)
- Do not get enough exercise
- Are obese
- Are diabetic
Dr Melanie Martins, Strategic Clinical Lead for Cardiovascular Disease and Stroke at NHS Birmingham and Solihull Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “Birmingham and Solihull’s Healthy Hearts campaign aims to help reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke for people at high risk.
“The new website offers a number of really useful tools and information to help local people make changes to their lives for the better.”
