Dr Matthew Sutcliffe – GP Locum Champion

    Birmingham and Solihull Locum Champion

Matt Sutcliffe is a Salaried GP currently working at the Omnia Practice within the East of Birmingham. Originally from Yorkshire, he studied at the University of Birmingham and subsequently completed his studies in the area in 2018. Outside of my salaried post he works regular, weekly Locum shifts across the West Midlands.

Dr Sutcliffe has a key interest in social prescribing, lifestyle medicine and health promotion. In 2021 He further developed his passion by completing a Postgraduate Diploma in Obesity and Weight Management. He has also been involved in the development of a social prescribing hub within his PCN and is the RCGP ParkRun Initiative lead for his practice. He acts as an advocate for exercise to both his patients and colleagues; in 2021 he completed half marathons in Solihull and Derby as well as the London Marathon.

Dr Sutcliffe was a member of the first cohort of GP Fellows within Birmingham and Solihull CCG, which provided him with immense opportunities to be involved in service re-design and gain new skills and confidence outside of clinical working.

In September 2021, Dr Sutcliffe was appointed one of the new Locum Champions for the locality which aims to improve engagement between the CCG and the flexible staffs pool and develop future ways of working.

Dr Imran Yakub – GP Locum Champion

Dr Imran Yakub qualified in Medicine in 2010 and completed his GP training in 2015. He works in East Birmingham across a practice group with a patient population of around 18000, representing a mix of ethnic backgrounds.

In 2017, he became a CCG Clinical Lead to review and redesign the delivery of diabetes services. Prior to his recent appointment in 2021 as a CCG Education Lead, Dr Yakub has been instrumental at generating programmes aimed at workforce development. This has included regular educational events throughout COVID-19.

Since 2020, he has taught for the first collaborative pilot between the RCGP-RPS delivering education and leadership skills across England. Dr Yakub is also a GP appraiser and looks forward on further networking across the CCG as well as identifying opportunities to share best practice. He has an interest in Dermatology, recently gaining a distinction for his diploma.

As a CCG locum Champion, Dr Yakub will be working with our First Five colleagues, Lantum, and key colleagues to establish, develop, and enhance the Locum workforce.

In addition to the above, he has a successful track record in the commercial sector in various roles. His last role was as a Commercial Director in the pharmaceutical industry, further developing his Leadership and Management skills.
